Dear FGSD Families,
We are working (some may say racing) towards the beginning of a new school year. We are now a little over four weeks away from the first day of school (September 14, 2020). As we have been communicating, school will begin in our Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) model. This decision was made in accordance with the Governor’s new School Health and Safety Metrics.
With this decision to start school in CDL, we know that there are still many questions that need to be answered. At Monday's School Board meeting, district principals shared with the board a snapshot of what a typical school day might look like for students in CDL. You can view a recording of that meeting, as well as a copy of the slides that were used for the presentation, by visiting the district website. You can also view graphics depicting potential, school level student schedules. Please be aware that these schedules are meant to give you an idea of what a day may look like. As our teachers and other staff begin to return to work, these schedules will evolve. The final building and class schedules will be communicated to you through your individual schools and teachers.
When the time comes that our county is able to meet the Governor’s required metrics, and our district is allowed to return to a Hybrid Model, we will do so in a measured way. There will be a transition period to allow parents and staff to make arrangements for a return to in-person instruction. We are looking forward to the time when we can work with our students again in-person.
We have received information from the Oregon Department of Education that meal availability throughout CDL will return to the way meals were served prior to the pandemic. That is to say that for those who qualify for “Free & Reduced Lunch” will continue to qualify and for those who purchased meals will continue to have that availability. All meals will be served at the individual buildings. More information will be provided as these schedules are finalized. The Federal Government is still discussing the possibility of additional funding that would allow all students to receive free meals -- as it was in the Spring.
On Monday, we were able to offer surplus desks/chairs/tables for many district families free of charge. We are working to see if we are able to offer additional resources. We know that there is still a need for these types of materials to help structure CDL in your homes. If we are able to offer additional materials we will communicate that through these weekly updates and on the district website.
As we all continue to deal with the stresses of these unprecedented times, I hope that we can remain safe and healthy and hopeful for a good school year.

Estimadas familias de FGSD,
Estamos trabajando (algunos pueden decir carreras) hacia el comienzo de un nuevo año escolar. Ahora estamos a poco más de cuatro semanas del primer día de clases (14 de septiembre de 2020). Como nos hemos estado comunicando, la escuela comenzará en nuestro modelo de aprendizaje a distancia integral (CDL). Esta decisión se tomó de acuerdo con las nuevas Métricas de Salud y Seguridad Escolar de la Gobernadora.
Con esta decisión de comenzar la escuela en CDL, sabemos que todavía quedan muchas preguntas por responder. En la reunión de la Junta Escolar del lunes, los directores del distrito compartieron con la junta una instantánea de cómo sería un día escolar típico para los estudiantes en CDL. Puede ver una grabación de esa reunión, así como una copia de las diapositivas que se utilizaron para la presentación, visitando el sitio web del distrito. También puede ver gráficos que representan los horarios de los estudiantes potenciales a nivel escolar. Tenga en cuenta que estos horarios están destinados a darle una idea de cómo será un día. A medida que nuestros maestros y otro personal comiencen a regresar al trabajo, estos horarios evolucionarán. Los horarios finales del edificio y de las clases se le comunicarán a través de sus escuelas y maestros individuales.
Cuando llegue el momento en que nuestro condado pueda cumplir con las métricas requeridas por el gobernador, y nuestro distrito pueda volver a un modelo híbrido, lo haremos de manera mesurada. Habrá un período de transición para permitir que los padres y el personal hagan arreglos para regresar a la instrucción en persona. Esperamos con ansias el momento en que podamos trabajar con nuestros estudiantes nuevamente en persona.
Hemos recibido información del Departamento de Educación de Oregon de que la disponibilidad de comidas en toda la CDL volverá a ser la misma que se servía antes de la pandemia. Es decir que para aquellos que califiquen para “Almuerzo Gratis o Reducido” seguirán calificando y para aquellos que compraron comidas continuarán teniendo esa disponibilidad. Todas las comidas se servirán en los edificios individuales. Se proporcionará más información a medida que se finalicen estos horarios. El gobierno federal todavía está discutiendo la posibilidad de financiamiento adicional que permitiría a todos los estudiantes recibir comidas gratis, como sucedió en la primavera.
El lunes, pudimos ofrecer escritorios / sillas / mesas sobrantes para muchas familias del distrito sin cargo. Estamos trabajando para ver si podemos ofrecer recursos adicionales. Sabemos que todavía se necesitan este tipo de materiales para ayudar a estructurar la CDL en sus hogares. Si podemos ofrecer materiales adicionales, lo comunicaremos a través de estas actualizaciones semanales y en el sitio web del distrito.
Mientras todos continuamos lidiando con el estrés de estos tiempos sin precedentes, espero que podamos permanecer seguros, saludables y con la esperanza de un buen año escolar.
